The Whitlet Hoverplane Flight Simulator (1932)

This machine situated on the roof of Selfridges London Department Store was in daily use to anyone interested in learning to fly or  purchasing an aircraft from Selfridges Avaition Department.

The machine is a small biplane, built by A. V. Roe & Co., Ltd., and powered with a Douglas flat twin engine. It is pivoted on a tripod which is supported by wheels, and upon these it travels on a small circular track, performing according to the pupil's handling of the controls.

Gordon Selfridge (an American) was credited amongst his many aviation achievements as being the first person in the UK to charter an aircraft for a business trip. (London Heston to Dublin in 1919)
